In a life full of surprises, there is only one thing that I am assured of — the future is indeed uncertain. Have you ever looked at the mirror or daydreamed in the middle of broad daylight and wondered what you’d like your future self to do? Imagine you sat down for a cup of tea with the ten years older version of you. What piece of advice would you give to make the life ahead of you happier and more successful? Luckily, here’s a guide that could make the upcoming version of yourself thank you for!
1. Allow Yourself to Go With the Flow
Indeed, with all the things happening around you can be overwhelming. Society expects you to conform to its ideal ways, to the point where you intend to be perfect. You often feel like everything is happening so fast and seem out of control or constantly appear to be stuck in a situation where it feels like nothing can be done, and the problem you’re facing is way big for you to handle. One thing I learned over the time being is the more you try to aim and make every effort to get things your way, the more you get stressed out and eventually feel burnout. With that, don’t be too hard and allow yourself to let go of the things you can’t control and instead shift that energy to improve yourself. However, it’s not always the answer to every situation. It would be best if you still were responsible for your own decisions and actions and remember that ignorance isn’t always bliss.
2. Don’t Be Afraid to Explore Things!
Oftentimes, you become hesitant to do things because you are concerned about what other people may perceive of you. Jokes on you, because it’s your life, so it’s none of their business! Do you want to dye your hair bright red, but you’re too afraid of the stereotypical remarks from other people? Still, go for it! Remember, if it gives you confidence and allows you to express yourself freely, why would you let someone else’s unsolicited advice ruin the fun?Chances are, doing what you like the most makes happiness and success more likely. Life is short, and you really wouldn’t know unless you give it a shot. Even if you failed, then you would most likely try not to do it again because it didn’t work out for you. This time, you had the experience and saved yourself from making the same mistakes again. Don’t be afraid to try new things because you certainly don’t want to stay up all night thinking about what you wish you could’ve done.
3. The World Doesn’t Revolve Around You
Sometimes, we tend to overly romanticize the main character syndrome we have on ourselves. In fact, you really are the main character of your life. But does that make the people around you less important than you? No. Indeed, being important and having people care about you is heartwarming. But, it also happens that when you constantly think that you are the center of everyone else’s world, people may perceive that you are too self-absorbed and selfish.Suppose that your friend unintentionally got rude when you asked them about their day. Your initial reaction would leave you wondering what you did wrong or may even take that personally. But when you come to think of it, maybe it wasn’t about you at all? Maybe they failed a test that would determine half of their grade and they are too embarrassed to tell anyone about it yet. Instead, approach them nicely rather than concluding things promptly. This lies in the belief that you don’t know everyone else’s story or what they may are going through. Everyone around you has their own roles in their lives and battles they silently fight. Try to think out of the box and don’t expect everyone to always attend to your needs like when you were younger because obviously, we grow and have other important things to prioritize. The world doesn’t revolve around you, and this is what I need to remind myself constantly, and you probably should too.
